The concept of the home visit is one much-beloved by family doctors but much underuti1ized in family medicine residency programs. Experienced physicians refer with nostalgia to their private practice days when they performed home visits on a regular basis. Most educators in family medicine agree on the value of home visits. Yet home visits are difficult to implement in the already overcrowded schedules of most residency programs. And their educational value, while undisputed, has not been sufficiently documented.
